For the price I bought thit at, I really couldn't ask for a whole lot. But this carrier exceeded my expectations. The straps holding it down were very secure, and the bag itself feels like it offers a lot of protection from the elements. It says it is water proof (as opposed to just water resistant) but I haven't had a chance to test this out yet. The bag is very roomy and we were able to fit a ton of camping gear in there. Especially at this price, I highly recommend this product as a cheaper alternative to a hard shell cover or a more expensive bag carrier.

Buyer beware! I purchased this item for a short trip to the beach. It fell apart immediately. The Carrier fell apart after a short 5-hour trip with no blazing sun, and no rain,....the carrier wasn't even full to capacity. When we reached our destination and unzipped the bag, there were black flakes all over everything. What a mess. We chose to return it, but junking it would have been just as easy of an option as return postage cost us $23! I guess we'll bit the bullet and go with a hard shell cargo carrier now. Very disappointed!

We bought one of these soft-top cargo carriers for a roadtrip to Florida and it worked very well, once we got the hang of it. You have to really, really strap it down tight so it doesn't shift or come loose when you reach higher speeds (and we thought we had!). When I hit 78 mph, the left front strap came loose, and we had to pull over on the highway to tighten it up. After that, it was fine. Make sure you do not leave the ends of the straps just hanging there, because that flapping noise can really be annoying! Tie them up well.

Also, be sure to really stuff it full if you don't want to hear the fabric flapping in the wind, because the contents will shift to the back, leaving wrinkles in the fabric that catch the wind. We didn't run into any foul weather with it but we had no worries about it being weather resistant based on other reviews here (we inspected it upon arrival and didn't find any white powder anywhere). You will likely want to buy a padlock to put through the zippers as well, since it doesn't come with a lock.

One other thing to keep in mind: these roof-top carriers, particularly soft ones like this, WILL affect your gas mileage. We lost 3-5 mpg on our fuel economy by using this carrier. I'm not sure if there are more aerodynamic carriers out there (likely hard tops with a sloped design), but that's something to keep in mind. This stores in a much smaller space than a hard top, though, and is much easier to get up onto the roof, which is why we chose this type. I would have preferred one that clipped onto the rails, rather than being tied on, though.

All in all, this rooftop carrier was very handy and it enabled us to bring everything we needed for our trip! We will definitely use it again. I'd recommend doing some test runs with it before you leave for your trip so you can practice getting it good and tight, for some peace of mind once you hit the road for a long trip!
